Independent Report Finds BeneTrac Goes Above and Beyond Need for Logical Security Controls for Online Employee Benefits Administration Software

Consolvant cites BeneTrac’s operational excellence and dedication to ensuring a sound and secure internal controls environment necessary for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance

San Diego, CA, November 15, 2004 – Hawthorne Benefit Technologies, Inc., also known as BeneTrac, a provider of powerful, web-based electronic enrollment and employee benefits administration software, today announced findings that it has gone above the needs for logical security controls to ensure its information and networks are secure, in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other security requirements.

In a comprehensive internal controls and information systems vulnerability review (similar to the industry’s gold standard SAS 70 Type I) independent consulting firm, Consolvant, disclosed that it “was not able to gain heightened access to information systems or any access whatsoever to sensitive, proprietary, or personally identifiable information during exhaustive internal and external network intrusion attempts.” The firm further noted that when opportunities did arise to improve internal controls, management immediately took action to investigate and start the process to implement where reasonable.

“We found BeneTrac’s architecture and procedures to be extremely stringent in preventing outside attempts to break through,” said Peter Bartoli, chief technology officer at Consolvant. “We also found the management team to be very proactive and open to extra cautionary suggestions and have noted that new controls have already been implemented, or are in the process of being finalized.”

BeneTrac commissioned Consolvant for rigorous testing that included interviewing key employees and assessing the internal control environment and information systems and operating environment, including IT architectural analysis, IT functional node security, IT operational security, IT intrusion detection systems, accounting systems, payroll and human resource systems, general physical security, disaster recovery and planning, and corporate governance.

“At BeneTrac, we are committed to operational excellence and dedicated to ensuring that a sound and secure environment exists for our customers to manage their information. In being one of the first in our category to voluntarily subject our infrastructure and procedures to rigorous testing, we hope to set precedence in the industry for going above and beyond in ensuring the safety of our users’ most valuable resources—their information,” said Jerry Hawthorne, RHU, CHC, chief executive officer of BeneTrac.
